Staircase with a wrought-iron railing

A two-flight staircase with the treads, the string and the newel posts in the same timber, and a railing of wrought-iron balusters with a matching timber handrail. The bottom step is rounded and wider than the rest: it is the one you step onto sideways as you come in, so it does not leave a corner in the middle of the living room.
